The Edison High School Band Boosters is raising money to support the young musicians during the second annual Sportsman’s Bash on March 16.
Festivities will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department at 15447 State Route 152, Toronto, and tickets are $20 each at the door. Additional parking is available at the neighboring Knoxville Old Skool and doors open for the bash at 2 p.m. Dinner will be provided by Bad Axe BBQ and 50-50 raffles, Chinese auctions and other fundraisers will be held throughout the night. Prizes range from sporting goods and flat-screen televisions to cash and goods donated by area merchants, as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
Band Director Marc Sansone said events are set to help generate funds for the music program.
“The proceeds benefit the Wildcat Marching Band trip to Cincinnati in the spring and new uniforms,” he said. “It will help us defray the cost of the trip. They will be performing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and we will also stop Cincinnati and Columbus as part of our tour of Ohio.”
He continued that the band was also in need of new attire and the plan is to acquire new jackets for their uniforms.
“Our underlying goal is to replace uniforms that date back to 1993 and we would like to purchase 100 new jackets, but they cost $25,000 to $30,000.”
Thousands of dollars were raised during the inaugural event last year and Sansone said more moneymakers would be held for the uniform campaign. Donations are also being accepted in care of the Edison High School Boosters and may be mailed to the high school at 9890 State Route 152, Richmond, Ohio, 43944.
