Edison High School will present the musical stylings of choir and band students during May.

The EHS Vocal Music Department will host the Vocal Music Awards Concert on May 13 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The event will include choir members in grades 7-12 highlighting tunes they performed throughout the year. Vocal Music Director Greg Hofmeister said awards will also be given for junior high members and high school superlatives, plus the Dani Carroll Award and Ray Lautzenheiser honor. In addition, two musical theater awards will also be presented to deserving seniors.

It is a free event but offerings will be taken to benefit future awards for the students. Hofmeister added that an ice cream social will immediately follow.

Meanwhile, the high school band will take the stage for its annual spring concert on May 17 at 7 p.m. It is also free but donations will be taken to benefit the John Moorehead Scholarship Program. Band Director Marc Sansone said the high school band and jazz ensemble will be featured and performances will include Broadway, big band and other music from the likes of “Wicked,” “The Greatest Showman,” “The Incredibles,” Benny Goodman and more.

“We distribute two or three scholarships a year to deserving seniors who have been in the high school band all four years,” Sansone said.
