OPENING OF FIELD HOUSE MARKS THE COMPLETION OF THE FINAL PHASE OF
THE UNIFIED SPORTS COMPLEX

Edison Local Schools will mark the completion of a project more than two years in the works when it officially unveils its field house on Wednesday, May 18th at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a community open house. The project, which was in the planning phase for more than two years, features the fieldhouse, which houses a basketball court, indoor track, conference rooms and seating for 1,500. Outside, there are new baseball and softball fields, and a multi-purpose football, soccer and track complex. Aside from the sports facility additions, a new VoAg building boasts spacious classrooms and specialized work areas for woodshop and mechanical skills. And last, but certainly not least, the high school auditorium underwent a complete renovation including state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems and a remodeled band room. A new parking lot rounds out the project and allows for parents, students and spectators attending events to have plenty of well-lit, convenient parking.

The $12 million complex, financed through a 2.1-mil emergency renewal levy passed by voters in 2019, puts the school’s sports facilities in one place which has long been a district goal. Previously, baseball and softball fields were located at Jefferson State Lake near Richmond and track practice and meets along with junior high basketball practice was held at Stanton Elementary in Hammondsville. Officials say that by centralizing the district’s activities, it’s much safer for students and more convenient for parents and spectators. Edison seniors will be the first group to enjoy the new field house as they walk across the stage during commencement on May 27th.

The ribbon cutting and open house will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at the field house, with the ceremony at 6 p.m. followed by self-guided tours of the new facilities and light refreshments.
