Racing against 11 schools on Martins Ferry’s hilly course, the Girls Varsity Team achieved 1st place for the overall crown while the Varsity Boys earned the Runner Up position.

Tight racing times made Saturday’s meet exciting to the very end of each race.  For the girls, freshman Josie Lesnansky executed yet another 2nd place overall finish as Laurel Kemp reached the finish line in 7th place.  The remaining scoring runners for the Wildcats all reached a noteworthy top 20 status: Paige Somerville (13th), Brittney Mynster (19th), Kennedy Baker (20th).  Displacing other teams’ scoring runners were Natalie Lucas (21st), Jenna Kelley (43rd) and Kylee Stull (44th).

The boys team was met with an equally contentious racing competition on the day.  As runners-up with 72 points, only the revered Steubenville Catholic Central squad edged them out of championship status. Gage Cable led the Wildcat team to a 5th place finish with Brock Koehnlein (14th) and Max McConnell (15th) earning top 20 honors also.  Liam Westfall (28th), Logan Gubanez (38th), Blaine Hoobler (39th), and Luke Linscott (48th) completed the lineup for the Edison team.

In the Middle School races, Nate Kline (4th) and Leila Cable (10th) each made the podium.  Ronnie White and Layla White each ran impressive personal best times of their running season and Leah Hendrix continues to stay consistently improving.

The Wildcats will return to Cambridge High School on Wednesday to compete in the Buckeye 8 Championship.
