Illness and slight delays in arrival times at Cambridge High School didn’t deter the Edison teams from getting focused to compete in Wednesday’s Buckeye 8 Championship races.
A testament to their positive attitudes and teamwork approach, the Girls Varsity team captured the Runner Up crown, narrowly missing 1st place (St. Clairsville). Josie Lesnansky grabbed 1st place overall from her aggressive run, finishing nearly a minute faster than the #2 runner from St. Clairsville. Finishing next for the Wildcats was Brittney Mynster (9th) who confidently led in the cascade of Wildcat finishers: Natalie Lucas (14th), Paige Somerville (25th), Kennedy Baker (26th), Kylee Stull (42nd), and Jenna Kelley (45th).
In only their second season as a team, the Varsity Boys finished 3rd overall behind historically strong St. Clairsville and Bellaire. Gage Cable (6th) battled a pack to hold on to top 10 honors while teammates Max McConnell (11) and Brock Koehnlein (12) finished in high standing despite narrowly missed hardware honors. Continuing in pack format were Liam Westfall (30th), Blaine Hoobler (33rd), Logan Gubanez (45th), JJ Reynolds (51st), and Luke Linscott (54th).
Rounding out the strong night of performances were our Junior High runners. Earning the podium were Nate Kline (8th) and Leila Cable (4th). Ronnie White finished 29th and Ronin Hartman finished 32nd. Layla White finished 14th and Leah Hendrix finished 30th.
Our teams will be back on the course next Wednesday, September 14th, at the Brooke Invitational.
