Area Bands will be “Tearin’ Up The Turf” Saturday Night

Area high school marching bands will spotlight their musical talent during the 17th Annual Tearin’ Up the Turf at Edison High School on Sept. 17.

Eleven bands from both sides of the Ohio River will perform at Cartwright Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. including EHS, Indian Creek, Steubenville Catholic Central, Harrison Central, Oak Glen, Wellsville, Minerva, Buckeye Trail, Bellaire, Caldwell and Cameron. Admission will be taken at the door and the cost is $7 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens and free for kids age 5. EHS Band Director Marc Sansone said the event and gives band members a chance to shine.

“They will each do a 10-minute performance which is basically a halftime show,” he said. “There will be a meet and greet for band members and they will have a picnic before the concert. The doors open at 6 p.m. and we will play rain or shine.”

Outdoor performances are set at the stadium, but in case of inclement weather the show will be held inside the new fieldhouse. All of the bands will receive a plaque for participating while a concession stand and T-shirt sales will also be offered.

Meanwhile, Sansone said the show provides a fun evening of musical harmony.

“It’s a night for folks to share performances with the community and it’s not a competition,” he said.
