Edison Back-to-School Rally on Aug. 7

Edison Local Schools will kick off a new year during the annual Back-to-School Rally on Aug. 7.

The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Edison High School Fieldhouse and includes inflatables, vendors and more with a Meet the Team event at the conclusion. Superintendent Bill Beattie said the rally will have plenty of things to do and enjoy.

“There will be school supplies, vendors, food trucks, bounce houses and a visit from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department with their large vehicles,” Beattie said.

He said the event has been held for more than a decade with a successful turnout, drawing between 400 to 500 students and family members each year. Officials added that the rally was an opportunity for families to obtain free supplies as well as learn about community agencies and organizations and their resources, while the food trucks and inflatables provided extra treats. Resources, giveaways and other items will be provided and vendors include the EHS football, cheer, soccer, swim, volleyball, wrestling and golf teams, Edison FFA, Richmond Methodist Church, the Jefferson County Health Department, county Juvenile Task Force, Community Action Council, Family Recovery Center, J.B. Green Team, U.S. Army Recruiting Center, U.S. Navy, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities and Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD). Also on hand will be Screwy Louie’s with inflatables along with All-American Burger, Rusty Bull Taco and Groovy Drinks food trucks.

Beattie added that the health department, juvenile task force and Family Recovery Center will also offer a “Hidden in Plain Sight” simulation trailer for parents to view.

“Hidden in Plain Sight is a simulation trailer for parents to enter a virtual tour and experience things that could be in their child’s room in plain sight and they have no idea,” he explained.

The event will close with a Meet the Team activity featuring fall sports athletes at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Edison Local begins its new school year on Aug. 20.
