Welcome to Edison Local Schools!

Welcome to the Edison Local School District website! This site is designed and constantly monitored to ensure that it is user friendly, informative, and that the information is current.

The Edison Local School District, which encompasses 208 square miles in the northern half of Jefferson County, serves approximately 1600 students, employs 175 professionals and works diligently to be good stewards of the $21.4 million budget the communities of Irondale, Stratton, Empire, Richmond, Amsterdam, Knoxville, Pleasant Hill, East Springfield, Wolf Run, Hammondsville and Bergholz provide for the education of its children.

We strive to provide an individualized education to each student through various means, including the traditional classroom setting, the ECAT Online Learning Program and 5 Star Rated Preschool Program. The Edison Local Schools take great pride in its preparation of students for college or a career through its College Credit Plus program and Credential Program in information technology. Edison students are consistently recognized at the local, regional and state level for their vocal and instrumental music performances.

The district offers an outstanding 5-Star rated Preschool Program in both Elementary School buildings. The Edison Local School District provides after-school programming for all students who wish to participate, as well as a summer school program for students in kindergarten through third grade with a focus on reading and math. Edison Local takes great pride in the business and community partnerships built to help students gain invaluable work experience before they ever leave the Wildcat hallways.

Edison Local School District provides the opportunity for its High School students to earn up to 55 college credit hours each year through the College Credit Plus program. The Class of 2018 amassed 1,609 college credits equaling more than $804,000 in college tuition savings for Wildcat families. Edison High School students are able to achieve this feat in the EHS classrooms thanks to the dedication of a team of caring and highly qualified staff who have earned the status of adjunct professor.

The Edison Local School District 5 Star Rated Preschool program provides educational opportunities for three and four year olds in northern Jefferson County and surrounding areas. Three year old students can attend the morning or afternoon preschool classes four days a week, while four year old students can attend the all-day preschool class four days per week. Edison is partnered with the Help Me Grow program, which provides occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical therapy to children from birth to two and a half years old. Children involved in the Help Me Grow program can enroll in the Edison 5 Star Rated Preschool program and receive the same services from caring, highly qualified Edison staff members.

Improving literacy performance for students in preschool through third grade is a major point of focus district-wide at Edison. All preschool through third grade teachers, Title teachers and Intervention Specialists are involved in the LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development program. The Edison Local School District is also proud to have a Literacy Coach on staff, working directly with students at the elementary grades, to help improve literacy outcomes for students. The Literacy Coach is made possible through the Early Literacy Pilot Grant from the Ohio Department of Education.

The Edison Local School District is proud to offer its Elementary students the opportunity to participate in the Destination Imagination program, which teaches students the skills needed to succeed in school, their careers and beyond. Destination Imagination features project-based learning programs that blend STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship. Edison students use the creative process to turn their ideas into reality and learn invaluable skills through the process including: Creative & Critical Thinking, Team Building, Problem Solving, Risk Taking, Project Management, Perseverance and Self-Confidence.
