A Message from Mrs. Burchfield
This 2019-2020 school year has gotten off to a great start! Our kiddos have been working hard with their academics while engaging in many school activities. One new incentive we have started is recognizing our students who are Taking Care of Business being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe by placing their name on our Shout-Out Board. Once there are 100 names placed on the board, I randomly choose 3 names who receive a prize from our treasure chest. I announce every morning how many more names are needed to complete the board and quite often I see students counting the board for themselves. This incentive gives all students a chance to be recognized for making good choices and we are having so much fun doing it!
This past October, we invited our family members to participate in luncheons and student showcases. Our students love having their family members come and join them during these activities. We had over 300 family members join us throughout the week. Also, I wanted to thank the family members who visited our Book Fair that week as well. I have seen many of our students reading the books you had purchased for them.
So far in November, we had two major events for our community. Many joined us for our Circus Early Literacy Night. The evening was filled with games, prizes, literacy stations, and many, many treats. We also had over 60 veterans join us for our annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast and Assembly. Our students invited a veteran to sit with them for breakfast and the assembly. Our students prepared decorations, presentations, and keepsakes for our veterans.
Something very exciting has just happened at John Gregg Elementary. We have a NEW PLAYGROUND! Our students are having so much fun on the new swing set, obstacle course, and tube swing. It’s heartwarming hearing our kids laughing and enjoying the outside.
December will also be filled with activities. Santa will be visiting on December 5 and we will be collecting for a local toy drive to help out with Santa’s list. Our students will be performing our Christmas Program on December 17 at 9:30 am and again at 1:30 pm. In addition to performing, they will also be learning about the many Christmas celebrations from around the world.
When we return from our Christmas break, we will be back to taking care of some Academic business. We have an Ice Cream Party scheduled for January 17 and we will be conducting another Pepperoni Roll Fundraiser again in February. They are so yummy!!
That’s all I have for now. Thanks for reading. I’ll update you soon!
