Edison BOE holds session

The Edison Local Board of Education took a trip back in time for their latest meeting when they gathered at the Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Historical Museum on Oct. 18. Edison Oktoberfest on Oct. 27

Edison High School will be the haunt for costumed boys and girls during the seventh annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, Oct. 27. Organizer Fatima Smuck, district administrative assistant, said activities will get under way from noon to 2 p.m. at the high school and all of the fun is free. John Gregg pumpkin project

First-graders at John Gregg Elementary recently took part in an autumn activity and held a pumpkin investigation, where they measured the height, weight and circumference and made predictions about the large fruit. Community donations add scoreboard

Spectators viewing the Edison Wildcats at play on the team’s home ballfield will notice a new addition, thanks to contributions from community members. Coach Mike Collopy said six area businesses donated a total of $6,000 to install a new scoreboard at the site near Jefferson State Park and replace another structure that was nearly two decades old. Gulfport Energy mini-grants fund leading libraries

Funding from Gulfport Energy is funding small libraries aimed at boosting literacy skills in youngsters. Stanton and John Gregg Elementary Schools were the recipients of a $7,000 allocation from the company and will help establish leading libraries at the buildings targeting children up to age 5 and their families. Week Highlights Bullying Prevention at Stanton

The members of The Miracle Club, an anti-bullying organization recently started by sixth-graders at Stanton Elementary, will observe National Bullying Prevention Month in October with a spirit week activity on Oct. 15-19.
