Staff and students have been getting some “Midweek Motivation” prior to class at John Gregg Elementary School with uplifting words from local pastors.
Music teacher Kathy Ramsey said events have been held each Wednesday from 8:15-8:40 a.m. before school and 20-30 people have gathered in her classroom for a mixture of music and messages. Ramsey said she and school counselor Tiffany Moses both had similar ideas and took them to Principal Tammy Burchfield, who approved the move. Sessions have been held since early March and hopes are to eventually open the activity to the community.
“We meet for 25 minutes every Wednesday before school and we have praise and worship music and community pastors and representatives from various churches in the area do a five-to-seven-minute Biblical principle lesson and prayer,” she added. “About 30 staff members and their children attend. We’ve had as many as 32-34 people. The first day there were 20, and it has grown.”
She continued that it has been a positive addition and she hoped to see it open up to the community next year.
“I have gotten positive feedback. I think everyone is excited to be here and the children are excited to see the pastors,” she said. “It’s about all of us creating a good foundation for our children. It’s an uplifting midweek worship time.”
